President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Fubara, dressed in a white caftan and black cap, arrived at the seat of power around 6:20 p.m. It is his first meeting with the President since his six-month suspension and the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers on 18 September.

In March, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state, suspended its democratic institutions and appointed a sole administrator to oversee governance. The federal action followed months of political unrest and violent clashes in Port Harcourt and other parts of the state.

The agenda of Monday’s talks was not disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Fubara’s visit came shortly after the President met separately with key government figures, including Kwara State governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.
