President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to the people and government of Oyo State after the death of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a respected former governor and one of Nigeria’s smartest scholars.
In a message shared by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Nigeria has lost a great man—not just in politics, but also in education and knowledge.
Dr. Olunloyo was known for being very smart. He got his PhD in applied mathematics and number theory from the University of St Andrews in Scotland when he was just 25. By age 27, he was already working as a commissioner in the old Western Region. This was the start of a career full of intelligence and service.
“Dr. Olunloyo will always be remembered in academic circles for his brilliance,” said Tinubu. “As a teacher and leader, he helped shape future leaders and made schools stronger.”
Olunloyo also helped start two important schools—The Polytechnic Ibadan and Kwara State Polytechnic. These schools have helped train many students over the years.
Although his time as governor of the old Oyo State was short due to military rule, Tinubu said Olunloyo showed great leadership during that time and continued to serve the country afterward.
The President also spoke about how Olunloyo believed in national unity, learning, and being responsible to the public—values he held on to all his life. “His work will always be remembered,” Tinubu said.
He ended by praying for peace for the Olunloyo family and everyone mourning his death. “May God give him rest and comfort those left behind,” he said.
