President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said his administration is building the foundation for a “new Nigeria” driven by shared prosperity, as he inaugurated the construction of the Southern Parkway service carriageways in Abuja.

Tinubu, represented by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, said ongoing reforms, though difficult, were necessary to reposition the country.

“The results are here – the roads, the bridges, the rails, and housing. We are laying the foundation for a new Nigeria that works – and works for all,” he said.

The president urged citizens to support the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, insisting that the benefits of reforms were beginning to emerge through infrastructure delivery.

He said the Southern Parkway project would ease congestion across key districts of the Federal Capital Territory, including Duste, Gudu, Gaduwa and Duboyi, while improving connectivity across the city’s development phases.

Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as “Mr Project” for accelerating infrastructure delivery in the capital.

Wike, in his remarks, said the project would be completed before the 2027 general elections and assured that ongoing political activities would not slow development works in the FCT.

He also warned against illegal developments along the road corridor, directing authorities to remove structures without valid land allocation.

Officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority said the Southern Parkway forms part of a wider transport network linking major districts across the city, designed to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time in Abuja.
