In a surprising turn of events, President Bola Tinubu has announced the immediate suspension of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank Governor.

The decision was made public by Mr. Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in a statement released on Friday night in Abuja.

According to the statement, this bold move comes as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of Mr. Emefiele’s office and the government’s planned reforms in the financial sector.

In light of this development, Mr. Emefiele has been directed to hand over the reins of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) who will serve as the acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation is concluded and the reforms are implemented.

This sudden action has sent shockwaves through the financial community, as the nation eagerly awaits further details on the nature of the investigation and the proposed reforms.

The suspension of such a high-ranking official underscores the government’s determination to bring about significant changes in the financial sector and maintain transparency and accountability.
