This week’s New Music Friday brings a crowded slate of releases across pop, hip-hop, R&B and indie, and Troye Sivan is at the front of it, according to several music outlets’ weekly roundups. Cardi B and Eminem also have new material out, and Pitbull and Remi Wolf are among the other big names.

Troye Sivan leads the pack

Billboard’s weekly guide puts Troye Sivan at the top of the list of essential releases, ahead of Slayyyter, Remi Wolf and a range of artists from other genres. NPR’s All Songs Considered also covered the Oct. 9 releases. Host Stephen Thompson went through the week’s best albums with public radio DJs from around the network, and Sivan and Wolf were among the names discussed, along with Cameron Winter.

Cardi B and Eminem make noise

Cardi B has dropped a track from the soundtrack to GTV VI, according to Essence, which reports it is called “Don’t Chart.” Billboard says Eminem is part of a collaboration this week, and it has asked readers to vote for their favorite release. Billboard describes Sivan as leading with new albums, while Cardi B and Eminem follow with singles.

Pitbull’s star-studded set

Pitbull’s latest full-length mixes styles and geographies. Billboard says it features crunk pioneer Lil Jon, Dutch DJ Afrojack, the Cuban reggaeton duo Gente de Zona, and the rock bands KISS and Bon Jovi. Jon Bon Jovi, speaking to Billboard in a cover story earlier in the week, said Pitbull’s music brings people together regardless of whether they are rockers or rappers, or what their politics are.

Singles and videos

Slayyyter shared “I Think He’s Got a Girl” from her upcoming Wor$t Man In America project. Gunna released a video for “Pop It” featuring tennis star Coco Gauff. Girl in Red put out “Blue,” her first new solo song of the year.

Other new tracks listed by Billboard include:

Snoh Aalegra’s “Run Free”; “Burn” by BigXThaPlug and Ava Max; “Every Night” from Offset and Don Toliver; Armanii’s “Second Chance”; Lainey Wilson’s “Kinda Love It”; Vince Staples’ “Tulsa, OK”; “For Sixxx in the Mornin” by Jessie Reyez and Samara Cyn; and cuts from Cece Natalie, Parisalexa, Ray Vaughn and Adrian Marcel.

Albums worth a listen

Paste Magazine’s list of 13 albums to stream points to new records from Cameron Winter, Dawn Richard and Jess Williamson as the ones to queue first. Richard’s Creole Culture, co-executive produced with Katalyst, is described as a portrait of New Orleans that blends R&B, soul, jazz, hip-hop and touches of bounce music. Paste also singles out Ghost Bridge by Michael Cormier-O’Leary’s ensemble Hour, and Edge Conditions, an album that Paste says crosses many genre boundaries.

Essence also highlights Joyce Wrice’s second studio album, MACHIKO. Vibe’s roundup of 50 hip-hop and R&B releases mentions Prince, Ledisi, Offset and Don Toliver, Gunna and others.

Between the major-label singles and the independent albums, this Friday offers something for most listeners and is likely to shape streaming playlists through the weekend.
