Former US President Donald Trump has filed an appeal against the decision of Maine’s top election official to keep him off the state’s presidential primary ballot. Maine, along with Colorado, had barred Trump due to his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol assault.
Trump’s lawyers have challenged the ruling, accusing Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows of bias.
The Colorado Supreme Court previously ruled Trump ineligible for its primary ballot, citing the 14th Amendment. Challenges to Trump’s eligibility under the 14th Amendment have been filed in various states, adding legal complexities to his potential 2024 bid.
