A member of an Islamic State-linked group in Uganda, Rashid Katumba, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in a thwarted terror attack on the funeral of Major General Paul Lokech, a prominent Ugandan military figure. Katumba was arrested in August 2021 with explosives in Pader, northern Uganda, on the eve of Lokech’s funeral.

The attack was attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group originally formed in Uganda in 1996 and later linked to the Islamic State. The ADF has been responsible for numerous attacks, including those in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Two other individuals, Luyenjje Najjimu and Arafat Jamil Kiyemba, were also convicted and sentenced to five years each for their involvement in the plot.
