Voice of Nigeria (VON) Director-General, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has criticized former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s condemnation of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s call to President-elect Sen. Bola Tinubu, describing it as absurd.

Responding to Atiku’s tweet expressing disbelief over the call and citing a contradiction in the U.S.’s stance on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, Okechukwu dismissed it as a delusion and an absurd spectacle.

Okechukwu highlighted Atiku’s breach of the PDP’s Constitution and the rotational convention of the presidency between the north and south as evidence of his inconsistency.

Okechukwu questioned Atiku’s right to complain about the consequences of his own actions, such as the division of his party into warring factions.

Regarding international diplomacy, Okechukwu argued that the U.S. is obligated to recognize Sen. Bola Tinubu as the president-elect of Nigeria and the president from May 29, unless the democratic process determines otherwise.

Okechukwu urged Atiku not to blame the Americans for his own misjudgment and emphasized the importance of adhering to the existing global order governing international diplomacy.

In summary, Okechukwu criticized Atiku’s reaction to the U.S. Secretary of State’s call, emphasizing Atiku’s past actions and asserting the necessity of respecting the democratic process and international diplomatic norms.
