Traders in Kano’s Sabon Gari market are up in arms over a plan to relocate them! The disagreement centers around the market’s wheelbarrow pushers, who management says are causing chaos and security concerns.

The Barrow Group Organization, led by Sanusi Sale Abdallah, claims the new market director, Abdul Bashir Hussain, is unfairly targeting them. “He told us he didn’t want us there from the start,” Abdallah said.

Hussain, however, insists he offered the wheelbarrow traders a new, improved location but they refused. He says their current activity creates congestion and disrupts the market flow. “We provided a solution, but they’re not budging,” Hussain said.

While Hussain maintains the relocation is for the “general public’s interest,” the traders feel strong-armed. Will a compromise be reached, or will the wheelbarrow wars continue?
