Over the weekend, Nigeria’s Capital City Minister, Nyesom Wike, openly praised Senator Samuel Anyanwu, calling him a man of strong values who stood firm through tough political times.

Wike spoke at Anyanwu’s 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, where he said he had once warned Anyanwu about how rough the political fight within the PDP (People’s Democratic Party) would get.

“I told him it won’t be an easy fight — many governors and big names would go against him,” Wike said. “But I also told him if he stays strong and doesn’t give up, he’ll come out on top. And he did.”

During the event, a special tribute book titled “Sam Daddy In My Eyes” was also presented — filled with stories from people close to the senator.

Known for being outspoken, Wike didn’t hold back. He advised Anyanwu not to go begging or making peace with those who once opposed him. “If you’ve won a fight, don’t go looking for peace — let them come to you,” he said.

Wike also spoke about how important it is to have character. “Money or power doesn’t define you. What matters is your character. If you don’t have that, then your money means nothing.”

He praised Anyanwu for being consistent — unlike others who change their stance depending on the day. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also spoke highly of Anyanwu, saying he remained steady under pressure.

Wike ended by promising that Anyanwu wouldn’t face future battles alone. “You’ve got people like me on your side. We’ve been through this before. Some won’t like it, but as it annoys them, it makes us happy,” he joked in Pidgin.

The speech got loud applause from the crowd, highlighting Wike’s continued role as a strong voice in Nigerian politics and someone who values loyalty above all else.
