Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday flag off the construction of 12 new roads alongside the installation of solar streetlights in major districts and expressways as part of the Light Up Abuja Programme.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister will also commission completed access roads in Sector Centre B, near Dakibiyu District, as well as two newly built roads in Mabushi District — ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street).

The schedule released Monday shows that between September 18 and October 16, two projects will be commissioned while 14 new ones will be launched.

Among them is the procurement of integrated solar lighting across key districts — Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi and Katampe Extension.

Other projects include:

  • Full-scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.

  • Construction of the Northern Parkway linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III.

  • Access roads to the Mabushi Bus Terminal and to the Renewed Hope Cities project site in Karsana West.

  • Development of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Airport Expressway.

  • Construction of an access road bypassing the Airport’s second runway, with a four-span bridge.

  • Rehabilitation of 15km of the old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction.

  • Engineering infrastructure in outstanding layouts within Guzape District.

Also planned are erosion control works in Kaura District, two new transit ways linking the Central Area to Wuse, an extension of Mohammed Isa Road in Asokoro, and the construction of official residences for the heads of key courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal and the Chief Judge of the FCT.

The rollout follows a series of recent infrastructure initiatives by the minister. Four weeks ago, Wike launched the expansion of water supply projects in Bwari and Karu towns. Two weeks later, he unveiled new facilities including a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and emergency reconstruction of Karu Road.

“These projects are designed to enhance mobility, improve security through better lighting, and support the broader Renewed Hope agenda,” Olayinka said.
