The former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, disclosed that disregarding advice from Christian Bishops led him to choose Sir Siminalayi Fubara as his successor, a decision now marred by political tensions.

Addressing the issue at Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, during his role as the Special Guest and Chief Launcher of the book “Law and Society: A Compendium of Speeches and Addresses,” written by former Chief Judge Justice Iche Ndu, Wike urged against those fueling conflict in the state and criticized the injection of ethnic considerations into the political crisis.

Highlighting his character, Wike asserted that his appointment as the Minister of FCT by President Bola Tinubu is a testament to his principles, emphasizing that had he followed the advice of certain Bishops, Fubara would not be in his current position as governor.

Wike’s call for peace resonated strongly: “If you want to help, help. If you cannot help, do not cause war. When making peace, open your door so that it will follow you.”

In a surprising twist, Fubara, represented by the Head of Service, Dr George Nweke, commended Wike for his infrastructural contributions to the institution, emphasizing the importance of documenting experiences in the book penned by the former Chief Judge.
