In the wee hours of Thursday morning, a band of around 30 gangsters launched a brazen attack on both the Neni Police Station and the Anaocha local government headquarters in Anambra State. Their uproar included chants demanding the removal of the Divisional Police Officer, alleging an overstayed tenure of 15 years in Anaocha.

While the reason behind the coordinated assault on the nearby local government offices remains shrouded in mystery, initial reports suggested the abduction of several police personnel, including female officers. However, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, refuted these claims, asserting that no officers were taken captive during the chaos.

The attackers leveled accusations against the Anaocha Police Station, likening it to the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and alleging rampant misconduct within its precincts.

Confirming the attack, the PPRO revealed that the assailants employed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the raid but failed to abscond with any firearms or police personnel. Despite the chaos, law enforcement managed to repel the intruders, thwarting their plans and restoring order.

Assuring residents of ongoing police operations in the area, the PPRO underscored the commitment to maintaining peace and security amidst the turmoil.
