Former Director of the Department of State Service (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has dismissed claims of rivalry between the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television Sunrise Daily, Ejiofor clarified that the DSS regards the EFCC as a sister agency and emphasized the importance of coordination among security agencies.
The speculation of a crisis arose when the DSS asserted ownership of the EFCC’s office in Lagos after President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration.
Ejiofor highlighted President Tinubu’s call for harmonious collaboration among security agencies.
He further outlined the DSS’s responsibilities, including counter-intelligence, internal security, counter-terrorism, surveillance, and investigation of severe crimes against the state.
As the President of the National Institute for Security Studies, Ejiofor assured that any perceived rivalry would not hinder a fair hearing for Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was recently suspended by the president.
He referenced the ongoing correspondence between the EFCC and the DSS regarding the vacation of their shared premises, stating that he sees no conflict between the agencies.
Ejiofor expressed confidence in the DSS’s commitment to providing individuals like Bawa with the benefit of the doubt and ensuring a fair trial.
