In a heartfelt revelation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio shared a tragic incident where his first grandchild lost his life due to medical neglect in a federal government hospital. Akpabio opened up about being a victim of medical negligence during the screening of Lagos state ministerial nominee, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

Recalling the heart-wrenching event, Akpabio stated that his grandchild passed away in 2019 as a result of bleeding due to a mishap during the drip procedure. The hospital failed to provide timely assistance as there were no doctors or nurses available when the incident occurred.

Despite the child’s desperate struggle to find help, he tragically lost over 60 percent of his blood and ended up in a coma. Efforts to revive him proved futile, and the defibrillator used was discovered to have been non-functional for eight years.

Akpabio recounted his own efforts, along with his personal physician, to save the child’s life, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The devastating incident compelled him to put his grandson’s lifeless body in the mortuary.

This heart-rending experience has left an indelible mark on the Senate President, emphasizing the need for urgent improvements in the healthcare system to prevent such tragedies in the future.
