In a recent development, the Lagos State Police has taken Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti into custody following accusations of assaulting a police officer over the weekend.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundenyin, confirmed this information through an official statement shared on Twitter on Monday.
Hundenyin stated, “In the early hours of today, Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti voluntarily surrendered himself at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, accompanied by his legal representative and a family member. He has been arrested.”
It can be recalled that it was previously reported on the police force’s pursuit of Seun Kuti, as per the Inspector-General of Police’s order, due to an alleged assault on a policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Officers had reportedly conducted searches at Seun’s residence in Lagos and the African shrine in the Ikeja area over the weekend but were unable to locate him.
According to a reliable source, efforts were underway to apprehend Seun, who was believed to be in hiding.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) strongly condemned the incident involving Seun’s assault on a uniformed police officer who was on duty in Lagos.
The PSC praised the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali, for his prompt response in ordering the arrest and prosecution of Seun.
