A distressing incident unfolded in Yangoji village, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as armed individuals kidnapped a seven-year-old girl.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday when the perpetrators, described as hoodlums, stormed the community.
According to Mr. Suleiman Musa, a village resident who spoke in Abuja, the hoodlums arrived in Yangoji and unleashed a hail of gunshots before breaking into several houses and taking the young girl with them.
Prompt action from a police team caused the assailants to hastily flee the village.
The Kwali Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to a distress call regarding the attack, arriving at the scene around 5 am on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that the combined efforts of police personnel, hunters, and vigilance group members, led by the Kwali Divisional Police Officer (DPO), prevented further harm to the community.
Engaging in a gun battle, the security team managed to deter the hoodlums, albeit too late to prevent their escape with the abducted girl.
Presently, security forces are thoroughly searching the area with the objective of rescuing the girl and apprehending the culprits.
When contacted for information regarding the incident, SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, stated that she will provide further details as soon as they become available to our reporter.
