Residents of Yenagoa, the capital city of Bayelsa State, expressed their outrage on Friday over the refusal of traders and commercial banks to accept old N500 and N1,000 notes.

The protests resulted in the blockage of the major Mbiama-Yenagoa Road, with demonstrators holding up placards with messages condemning the situation.

One of the placards bore the message, “Banks reject old cash, but they continue to dispense it – why?”

The situation remains tense as authorities seek to restore order and address the concerns of the protesting residents.
