Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the six victims who lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Trans-Ekulu Enugu.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace Commercial Bus and a Howo-Sino Truck at CBN Bus Stop on 9th March 2023, at about 9:20 am.
The CP has ordered the Officer in-charge of the Command’s Motor Traffic Department to accelerate investigations into the accident and take further policing actions.
The Commissioner also advised road users, especially drivers, to exercise patience and care while driving, and to avoid reckless and dangerous driving that could endanger their lives and that of their passengers.
The Commercial Bus, with registration number XL 884 ENU, driven by one Simon Umeh (male) and loaded with five passengers, was heading to New Market Enugu, when it had a head-on collision with the Truck coming from the opposite direction while attempting to overtake a smoky vehicle ahead.
The lifeless bodies of the driver and the five passengers were taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed their death, and their corpses were deposited in the mortuary for preservation.
The accident vehicles have been recovered to the Police Station, while efforts are being made to arrest the yet-to-be-identified driver of the truck, who fled the scene before the arrival of the police.
