The Benue State National and State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal, convening in Makurdi, has rejected an application put forth by Mr. Daniel Onjeh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Benue South Senatorial District election.

Onjeh had sought a recount of the votes cast in the February 25th, 2023, election.

Onjeh, who contested the victory of Senator Abba Moro from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had hoped to invalidate Moro’s win and secure recognition from the tribunal as the rightful winner.

One of his key claims in the petition was the occurrence of overvoting during the election.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, the panel’s chairman, Justice Ory Zik-Ikeorha, concluded that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the application.

Justice Zik-Ikeorha stated that the application was premature and premature at this stage of the pre-hearing process.

Consequently, the panel dismissed the application, denying Onjeh’s request for a vote recount.
