In a dramatic turn of events, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities.

According to Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, the NWC took this action due to complaints raised against Damagum and Anyanwu regarding a letter they addressed to the Court of Appeal. This letter allegedly went against the party’s position in a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC condemned this action as a gross violation of the PDP Constitution and the officials’ Oath of Office. Consequently, Damagum and Anyanwu have been suspended from all NWC meetings, activities, and programs pending investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee.

In a bid to ensure party discipline and cohesion, the PDP’s Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has been working to address internal conflicts. The Board has urged all members to cooperate fully with the disciplinary committee, should they be summoned. This move aims to maintain order and unity within the party. Additionally, Senator Wabara stressed the importance of expediting action on pending matters, including the scheduled National Executive Committee meeting on October 24. This meeting is crucial for addressing party issues and charting a unified course forward.

The suspension and ongoing disciplinary actions underscore the PDP’s commitment to upholding its constitution and maintaining party discipline. As the opposition party navigates these internal challenges, its ability to present a united front will be crucial in the lead-up to future elections.
