Desmond Akawor, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has officially stepped down from his position. The move comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu appointed him as the Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission.

In his resignation letter, dated November 22, 2023, addressed to PDP’s acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umaru Damagun, Akawor cited his recent federal appointment as the reason for stepping down. He confirmed handing over his duties to the deputy chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the PDP in Rivers State from 2020 to 2023, Akawor emphasized his commitment to the party’s ideals. He thanked President Tinubu for the appointment and pledged ongoing support for the party.

Tinubu’s appointment of Akawor as the RMAFC Federal Commissioner for Rivers State follows the tragic demise of the previous commissioner, Asondu Temple. Pending Senate confirmation, Akawor is tasked with leveraging his extensive experience to reform processes for efficient allocation utilization across all tiers of government in Nigeria.
