With just five days to the Edo Central Senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its senatorial candidate, Prince Joe Okojie, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to act with professionalism on election day.
Speaking after a meeting with traditional rulers in Igueben, Okojie expressed confidence in his chances, predicting victory across all five local government areas in the district. He pledged to prioritise the rehabilitation of federal roads in the senatorial district, which he described as “virtually impossible” to navigate.
“My first assignment will be to prevail on the federal ministry of works to address our roads and ease the suffering of my people,” he said, adding that he also plans to establish skills acquisition centres to boost employment.
State PDP chairman, Hon Tony Aziegbemi, criticised INEC and security agencies for what he described as failures during the 2024 governorship election. He urged them to uphold the Electoral Act and remain impartial, warning that public confidence in the process depended on their conduct.
The by-elections are scheduled for Saturday.
