Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, describing it as a catalyst for socio-economic growth and intellectual advancement across the state.
Speaking in Igueben during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign tour of wards in Edo Central Senatorial District ahead of next Saturday’s by-election, Okpebholo said the revival of the College of Education in Igueben would spur development in the region.
“We are reviving the College of Education, Igueben. We have rolled out a ₦1 billion bursary scheme to cater for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions,” the governor declared, adding that all higher institutions in the state would receive “the attention they deserve.”
The APC campaign stop also saw the defection of several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, including former Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Friday Itula, to the ruling party.
In Ovia Federal Constituency, Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa urged party members to see the House of Representatives by-election as a litmus test for the APC’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Saturday’s by-election is to show our preparedness for 2027. I want it to be a 100 percent win for the APC,” Idahosa said at the campaign flag-off, calling for maximum mobilisation to secure victory for the party’s candidate, Omosede Igbinedion — the only female National Assembly contender from Edo State.
Igbinedion praised Idahosa’s grassroots influence and appealed for sustained support for the APC, pledging more infrastructural development if elected.
