Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei shrugged off Ethiopian team tactics to snatch gold in the men’s Olympic 10,000m at the Stade de France on Friday. Clocking in at 26:43.14, Cheptegei set a new Olympic record, surpassing Kenenisa Bekele’s 2008 mark.
Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi narrowly took silver in 26:43.44, just ahead of American Grant Fisher, who snagged bronze—the USA’s first in this event since 1968. The race was a battle from the start, with Ethiopian runners Barega and Kejelcha setting an aggressive pace, but Cheptegei surged to the front in the final lap, sealing his victory. Fisher’s remarkable finish rounded out the podium, capping off a thrilling race.
