Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has called for an end to the nationwide protests to prevent further loss of lives and property. In a tweet on X, Sani expressed concern over the involvement of hoodlums who have hijacked the protests, leading to violence and destruction, particularly in Kaduna, Kano, and other northern states.
Sani condemned the actions of the hoodlums, which resulted in significant damage and casualties. He advised those supporting the continuation of the protests, especially in the North, to reconsider, given the potential for further chaos.
While acknowledging that peaceful protest is a constitutional right, Sani emphasized the need for demonstrations to be conducted without threats to life and property. He praised the security agencies for their swift response in managing the situation.
He also noted the absence of protests in the South East, despite apparent support for the cause, highlighting the complexities of regional politics and public demonstrations in Nigeria. Sani commended Governor Uba Sani for his proactive measures in maintaining calm and urged for dialogue and consultation as tools for resolving crises.
