In a recent development, the Coalition for Good Governance and Government’s Responsiveness (C3GR) has raised apprehensions regarding the potential appointments of certain individuals within the Federal Government.
C3GR’s Executive Director, Adebowale Rasheed, conveyed the organization’s reservations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, in separate letters.
Specifically, the group expressed doubts about appointing the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Hon. Alhassan Doguwa to key positions due to controversies surrounding their characters.
Regarding Abdullahi Ganduje, the group referred to a controversial video circulating online allegedly showing the former Governor accepting and storing dollars, a matter that might soon attract the attention of the EFCC. C3GR emphasized that while it may be legally permissible to appoint Ganduje to the cabinet, it is not advisable in the current circumstances.
They urged President Tinubu to consider the potential negative impact such an appointment might have on his government’s reputation, which they believe has made a promising start.
In a similar vein, the advocacy group raised concerns about Hon. Alhassan Doguwa potentially being appointed as Chairman of the Security and National Intelligence Committee in the Federal House of Representatives.
The C3GR cited Doguwa’s potential re-arraignment for manslaughter or murder as a major reason for their unease. They called on Speaker Abbas to make a decisive and impartial decision to avoid any potential embarrassment to the House.
While acknowledging the legal right to make these appointments, C3GR underscored the importance of acting expediently, especially in light of public scrutiny.
The organization appealed to both President Tinubu and Speaker Abbas to consider the potential ramifications of these appointments and make informed choices for the benefit of the nation.
