Cross River State Representatives Rally Behind Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu for Leadership Positions in the 10th National Assembly
In a show of solidarity, the Members-elect of the House of Representatives from Cross River State have announced their unanimous support for Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu as the speaker and deputy speaker, respectively, in the upcoming 10th National Assembly.
This decision was revealed by Mike Etaba, the elected representative of Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, during a visit to Abbas in Abuja on Sunday.
Last week, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) officially endorsed Abbas and Kalu as its preferred candidates for the presiding officers’ positions.
Etaba emphasized that backing these individuals would be advantageous for the state, stating, “Their decision must not only be ably guided by the desire to continuously put Cross River State in national reckoning but to also elect those who would, in the long run, be supportive of federal government programs and projects in the state.”
Etaba further highlighted the commitment of the Cross River State National Assembly members to actively participate in decision-making processes.
He emphasized that Cross River State is the only state in the entire South-South region governed by the All Progressives Congress, and a majority of the lawmakers belong to the ruling party.
The representatives from Cross River State expressed confidence in Hon. Tajudeen Abbas’s leadership abilities and vast experience as a public servant and astute political figure.
They believe that his tenure as the head of the National Assembly would elevate it to new heights of legislative excellence.
Additionally, the lawmakers stressed the importance of party supremacy.
They noted that cooperation across party lines in the National Assembly had facilitated the development of various states, and as representatives of Cross River State, their primary allegiance is to the betterment of their region.
With the stage set for a consequential legislative session that will determine the leadership of the National Assembly, all eyes are on the representatives from Cross River State.
The outcomes and performance of these individuals at the 10th National Assembly are highly anticipated, as they aim to shape the future of legislative affairs in Nigeria.
