The Department of State Services (DSS) has defended its presence at the Lagos State House of Assembly, stating that its operatives were invited by the lawmakers to provide security amid rising tensions.
In a statement on Monday, the DSS refuted claims that it stormed the Assembly complex, clarifying that its deployment followed a February 14, 2025, request from the House citing potential threats.
The letter, signed by Acting Clerk A.T.B. Ottun, warned of alleged plans to forcefully reinstate impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on February 18, which could endanger lawmakers and disrupt proceedings.
“In light of this situation, we kindly request increased security presence and strict access control from February 16 until further notice,” the letter stated.
The DSS assured the public that its presence was solely to maintain order, acting within its constitutional mandate to prevent security breaches.
