The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has arrested 71 suspects during a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts and black spots across Abuja.
The operation, carried out on September 8, simultaneously covered divisions in Gwagwalada, Kubwa, Nyanya, Apo, Karmo, Maitama, Mabushi, Dawaki, Galadima, Asokoro, Karu, Jikwoyi, Mpape, Lokogoma, and Utako.
Police sources confirmed that substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs were recovered during the exercise. The suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation, with those found culpable to be prosecuted.
The crackdown follows recent reports of criminal activity in parts of the capital, with security agencies under pressure to address emerging threats.
In a related development, operatives from the Byazhin Division on September 9 rescued a 40-year-old woman, Mary Moore, who was reported missing in Keffi, Nasarawa State, and later found in the Byazhin area. She has been handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for medical care.
The same day, detectives in Gwagwalada began investigating the discovery of a decomposing body of an unidentified man in the Ibwa 1 area. Following consultations, police and community leaders agreed to bury the remains in line with local customs.
Also in Gwagwalada, police received a report on the sudden death of a 24-year-old woman, identified as Ebubechukwu Sunday Kelechi, at her fiancé’s residence. Preliminary findings indicated she had been receiving treatment for malaria, with medications recovered at the scene. No visible injuries were found, and investigations are ongoing.
