The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering equal employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
At a House of Representatives public hearing on “Access to Employment and Entrepreneurship for PWDs” in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, emphasized the need for inclusive hiring policies in both public and private sectors.
She highlighted key initiatives, including provisions in the National Employment Policy that ensure equal opportunities, workplace accessibility, and protection from discrimination. The government is also providing vocational and technical training tailored for PWDs, along with job placement, career counselling, and business mentorship programs.
To further support economic inclusion, the Ministry has established strategic partnerships with disability-focused organizations and financial institutions. It also organizes monthly entrepreneurship and employability training covering business management, financial literacy, and job readiness.
Onyejeocha stressed the need for stronger enforcement of disability inclusion laws, expanded financial and technical support for PWD-owned businesses, and increased public awareness to promote inclusive employment.
“The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment remains committed to ensuring full economic integration of PWDs through policy implementation, targeted training, and stakeholder engagement,” she said.
