The Labour Party has denied claims that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed a report circulating on social media about the party’s position on the issue. He emphasized that the Labour Party had not zoned any of its positions to any geographical region or individual.

Ifoh clarified a statement from the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, which was allegedly misinterpreted. According to Ifoh, Abure’s statement titled “2027: Labour Party still available for Ndigbo to realise presidency – Abure” was taken out of context. Abure’s comment, he explained, was a call for unity and outreach from South-East members, not a declaration of zoning.

The Labour Party remains a national party with supporters across Nigeria, Ifoh explained, and the issue of zoning does not apply to the party. The Labour Party’s constitution does not permit zoning, and candidates for positions must emerge through democratic processes.

Ifoh also expressed appreciation for the public interest and trust in the party, acknowledging the support it received from Nigerians eager for a reformed democracy. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the party, assuring them of its commitment to the nation’s future.
