In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, a sawmill located along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, specifically at Awori Bus Stop, Abule Egba, Lagos, was engulfed in a raging fire. Despite the intensity of the blaze, there were no reported casualties.

The fire, which broke out around 3:47 pm, consumed the sawmill and destroyed numerous planks and other valuable items, estimated to be worth several million naira. Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the scene to combat the inferno and prevent it from spreading further.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that affected traders from the market were actively attempting to salvage their goods amid the chaos caused by the fire. The cause of the fire, whether immediate or remote, could not be determined as of the latest report.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, provided updates on the situation, confirming that the fire had been brought under control. Fortunately, there were no recorded casualties in the incident. The efforts of emergency responders contributed to containing the fire within the sawmill area, preventing it from causing more extensive damage.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the affected traders and the community are left to assess the losses incurred from the destruction of the sawmill and its valuable contents.
