Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, is currently participating in the Second Meeting of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Defence Ministers’ Council in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In a statement by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Press & Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, the meeting, chaired by Saudi Minister of Defence, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman, aims to enhance coordination in ideological, media, counter-terrorist financing, and military efforts among IMCTC member countries.

Established in 2015, IMCTC includes 42 members, such as Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, and Turkey, with a mission to become a global leader in counter-terrorism. The meeting discussed the impact of terrorism in Nigeria, particularly addressing Boko Haram and ISWAP.

The Coalition commended Nigeria’s efforts against terrorism, expressing commitment to support and collaborate with the Nigerian Government. Discussions during a closed-door meeting emphasized the enduring relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, covering collaboration, military technology transfer, and a Memorandum of Understanding on security cooperation.

This pivotal meeting is expected to bolster global collaboration against terrorism, contributing to enhanced security efforts in the African Sahel region and aiding in the degradation of Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other terrorist groups in Nigeria.
