The Federal Ministry of Works will close sections of the First Niger Bridge from September 7 to 21 to allow for maintenance and repairs.

The Acting Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Timothy Emenike, disclosed this on Friday in Awka, urging motorists and commuters who use the bridge to take note of the planned closure.

He advised road users to use the Second Niger Bridge as an alternative route during the maintenance period.

According to Emenike, the work will include repairs to sections of the bridge that were vandalised.

He said the maintenance would be carried out round the clock to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible.

Emenike acknowledged the inconvenience the closure could cause motorists and commuters, and appealed for their cooperation.

He also urged motorists to follow diversion signs and instructions from traffic authorities to minimise disruption during the two-week maintenance period.
