The Delta State Police Command has rescued an abducted woman in Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area, less than 24 hours after she was kidnapped from her residence.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Friday.
Edafe said the woman was abducted on Wednesday while attempting to drive into her compound, where the kidnappers were lying in wait.
According to him, the suspects fired several shots into the air before taking her into a nearby bush.
Following a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sapele immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the area. The operatives recovered spent AK-47 ammunition shells at the scene and, with the support of local vigilantes, launched a search of the surrounding bushes.
The search continued throughout the night until Thursday morning, when the kidnappers, apparently sensing danger, abandoned the victim and fled.
The woman was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her family.
Edafe said the police had intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes involved in the rescue, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal groups in the state.
Eralé also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist the police in tackling crime across Delta.
