Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, born on March 7, 1962, has been appointed as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Shonubi obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos between 1978 and 1983.

He further pursued a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Production Engineering from the same university in 1985.

Shonubi expanded his academic qualifications by earning a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus on Finance between 1988 and 1989.

Shonubi’s professional journey began as a Consultant Engineer at Mek-ind Associates from 1984 to 1989.

He then worked as a Marketing Executive at Inlaks Computers Limited from 1989 to 1990.

Later, he joined Citibank Nigeria Limited, where he served as the Head of Treasury Operations from 1990 to 1993.

Subsequently, Shonubi worked as a Supervising Consultant at Agusto & Co. Ltd from 1993 to 1996.

He then joined MBC International Limited as the Deputy General Manager of Banking Operations & Information Technology from 1996 to 1999.

In 1999, he transitioned to First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited, assuming the position of Vice-President of Operations & Information Technology until 2002.

Shonubi’s career continued to progress, and in 2003, he joined Ecobank Nigeria Plc as an Executive Director of Operations & Information Technology.

In 2007, he became the Director of Information Technology and Corporate Services at Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited.

From September 2009 to April 2012, he served as an Executive Director of Operations, Technology, and Services at Union Bank of Nigeria Limited.

Following this, Shonubi held the role of Managing Director/CEO at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc from May 2012 to October 2018.

Since December 9, 2019, he has been the Deputy Governor of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), representing the Governor on the Board of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Shonubi is married and has children.
