The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has prohibited sign-out celebrations for graduating students following a fatal accident involving two tricycles near its campus.
The tradition — in which final-year students sign one another’s shirts and mark the end of their studies with social gatherings — will no longer be permitted at the university’s Permanent Site Campus Gate, according to a statement issued by Registrar Malam Nuradeen Abdu.
Instead, any celebratory activities must take place within faculty premises. The use of public address systems, driving or running around with cars during such events is also banned.
The university said the measures were aimed at preventing further accidents and ensuring student safety. “Violations will attract immediate disciplinary action,” the statement warned.
FULafia urged students to cooperate with the new rules, stressing that their safety remains the institution’s top priority.
