Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade says the team is still awaiting the $100,000 reward and other pledges made by the Federal Government following their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with media host Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade confirmed that none of the commitments — including cash prizes and housing — had been fulfilled.
“We have not received our money, but hopefully it would be paid. They have not paid — all the promises, we have not received anything,” she said.
Ajibade led the Falcons to a record-extending WAFCON title last year, after which President Bola Tinubu awarded national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) to the squad and technical crew, alongside the $100,000 prize for each player and a three-bedroom flat.
At the time, Tinubu hailed the team’s “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage,” calling their victory a historic achievement for the country.
