Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates to secure sweeping victories in the forthcoming local government elections. Speaking at a gathering on Friday with the APC’s 20 chairmanship, 20 vice-chairmanship, 236 councilorship candidates, and the 20 local government party chairmen, Governor Abiodun expressed confidence in the APC’s chances due to the achievements of his administration.
Highlighting the APC’s role in democratizing governance and expanding infrastructure, Abiodun emphasized that Ogun State residents have benefited from the administration’s development efforts, which he said extended to all communities. “Ogun people appreciate a government that listens and fosters peace and stability,” he stated, reaffirming the APC as the party to beat.
Abiodun urged party unity, stressing that all candidates must approach the election in harmony, free from animosity over candidacy selections. “None of you emerged by accident,” he added, emphasizing that the candidate selection process was thorough and intentional to avoid placing local government leadership in inexperienced hands.
As a part of his administration’s ‘ISEYA’ agenda, Abiodun urged candidates to embody and promote this vision across all campaigns, aiming for consistency from Ijebu-North to Ado-Odo-Ota. He also announced upcoming projects, including a deep-sea port, naval base, and dockyard in the Ogun Waterside Local Government area, alongside achievements such as over 700 kilometers of road construction, 4,000 housing units, 120 rehabilitated Primary Health Care Centers, and 1,000 classroom renovations.
Acknowledging the current economic difficulties, Abiodun praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, promising they would eventually yield benefits. Additionally, he noted initiatives like selling rice at subsidized rates to ease the burden on public servants and pensioners.
APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi encouraged the candidates to campaign vigorously to secure the party’s dominance, underscoring the importance of strong grassroots support in Ogun State.
