Protesters barred the entrance to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, demanding that the party’s presidential ticket be assigned to the south.

Protesters held posters with slogans like “promote unity, shift power to the south,” “defend democracy, shift power to the south,” and other similar phrases.

The group’s claim is based on the fact that the north has held the presidency for two consecutive terms.

The Igbo Elders Consultative Forum is asking all political parties to zone the presidency to the south east, similar to the demands of demonstrators at the PDP office this morning.

The group is also threatening to curse any Igbo son or daughter who supports any non-Igbo presidential candidate, characterizing such individuals as saboteurs.
