US Embassy Staff and Police Officers Killed in Anambra State; Abduction of Two Others Feared

In a shocking incident, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has strongly denounced the ruthless assault on a convoy belonging to the United States Consulate, resulting in the tragic death of seven individuals.

Among the victims were local staff from the US Embassy and Police Mobile Force Officers.

The attack, which took place on Atani Osamale Road in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, also involved the burning of vehicles and the potential abduction of two individuals.

According to CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the US team was visiting the area to assess its vulnerability to erosion as part of their humanitarian initiatives.

Expressing astonishment and unequivocal condemnation, the IGP described the attack as a heartless act committed by the assailants or non-state actors, demonstrating a complete disregard for humanity. He further emphasized, “The act is indeed evil and inhuman.

Consequently, the IGP has issued a prompt directive for a comprehensive investigation into the assault, urging the investigative team to apprehend and bring to justice both the culprits and their sponsors without delay.

Simultaneously, the IGP issued a stern warning to all non-state actors, cautioning them against engaging in nefarious activities.

He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, will not hesitate to take decisive action against these individuals and their sponsors, aiming to eradicate their unpatriotic and disruptive actions that undermine the nation’s stability.

Expressing condolences to the US Consulate for the brazen murder and abduction of its local staff, as well as the families of the officers who lost their lives, the IGP assured the public that every effort is being made to secure the release of those abducted.

The IGP further affirmed the willingness of the Nigeria Police Force to collaborate with foreign entities operating within the country, ensuring the safety and security of their personnel and assets.

He reiterated the commitment of the police to safeguard the well-being of all individuals, including visitors and diplomats in Nigeria.
