In a surprising turn of events, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of results for the governorship rerun election in Adamawa State, just hours after a purported declaration of a winner.

According to sources, the REC of Adamawa State allegedly declared Binanni as the winner of the poll before the process was concluded.

In a statement signed by Barr. Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner for Information & Voter Education, the Commission expressed concern over the REC’s action, which was seen as a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer.

The Commission deemed it null, void, and of no effect.

As a result, the collation of results for the supplementary election has been suspended, and the REC, Returning Officer, and all those involved have been summoned to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja immediately.

This development has raised questions about the integrity and transparency of the electoral process in Adamawa State, and further actions are awaited from INEC to address the situation
