Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently consider reopening the country’s borders for food imports to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

In a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, after hosting the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf highlighted the dire situation of hunger and starvation due to the skyrocketing prices of commodities.

We appreciate the President’s intervention on the national food initiative and believe that launching it in Kano will mitigate food scarcity,” Governor Yusuf stated, stressing the need for border reopening to ensure food availability and affordability.

During the meeting, Governor Yusuf underscored the importance of easing the suffering, especially during Ramadan, by opening borders. He commended the Customs Service’s initiative to distribute food items and urged its targeted delivery.

The Comptroller General, Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Customs Service’s commitment to collaboration, promising policy improvements and stakeholder engagement to address food scarcity in Kano.
