Authorities have identified the location of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, and believe the victims remain within Kebbi South, according to Senator Garba Maidoki.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Maidoki said security agencies were closing in on the kidnappers and expressed optimism that the girls could be rescued soon.
“We have a fair idea where the girls are, and we are sure they have not moved outside the Kebbi South Senatorial District,” he said. “There is high hope that the girls will return home in one or two days.”
The attack occurred on Monday, when armed men stormed the school, killing the vice principal who attempted to prevent the abduction of about 25 students. The incident has drawn national outrage and renewed international concern over school safety in Nigeria.
In response, the Federal Government has ordered security agencies to ensure a swift rescue operation. Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited the community on Wednesday on President Bola Tinubu’s behalf, described the attack as tragic and pledged that all necessary resources would be deployed to secure the girls’ release.
Shettima was accompanied by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and other senior officials. Global organisations, including UNICEF, have also called for urgent action.
The abduction has forced President Tinubu to postpone scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola.
The incident adds to the recurring pattern of mass kidnappings targeting schools in Nigeria, a crisis that gained international prominence after the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction.
