The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed its support for the Sen. Taminu Turaki–led National Working Committee, declaring that the leadership emerged from a convention conducted in full compliance with the party’s constitution and relevant laws.

In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, BoT Chairman Sen. Adolphus Wabara said the convention in Ibadan reflected the collective will of delegates and key stakeholders nationwide.

Wabara condemned the recent invasion of the PDP National Secretariat by what he described as “expelled members and armed thugs,” accusing them of attempting to forcibly seize the complex.

He said the attackers tried to block Turaki — who arrived at the headquarters alongside PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and other leaders — from gaining entry.

The BoT praised the “courage and resilience” of governors, NWC members, BoT members, and supporters for resisting the disruption.

Wabara dismissed the statements and media engagements by those expelled from the party, describing their attempts to discredit the Ibadan Convention as “mischievous” and a direct threat to internal democracy.

He called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the assault on the party headquarters and prosecute those responsible.

“Democracy thrives only where institutions remain impartial, professional, and insulated from partisan manipulation,” he said.

Wabara reaffirmed the BoT’s commitment to safeguarding party unity and ensuring that the mandate given at the Ibadan Convention stands. He urged the newly elected NWC to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
