The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, has appealed for the immediate release of Okey Wali, SAN, a former President of the NBA, who was reportedly abducted in the early hours of April 17th, 2023.

Mr. Wali’s convoy was attacked along the East-West Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a statement, Maikyau described Mr. Wali as a respected elder who has served Nigeria in various capacities, contributing immensely to the growth of legal practice and promoting the rule of law.

He also emphasized that Mr. Wali is a known philanthropist who has helped in the development of his community.

Maikyau urged the abductors not to harm Mr. Wali and appealed for his release to his family.

The NBA president assured the family of his full support and joined in praying for Mr. Wali’s safe return.

This incident is a sad reminder of the weakness in Nigeria’s security system and the government’s failure to provide for the welfare and security of its citizens.

Maikyau called on the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State to spare no effort in ensuring the safe return of Mr. Wali.

Okey Wali, SAN, was the 26th President of the NBA and has been a dominant figure in Nigeria’s legal community. He has also served in various public and private capacities.
