The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has intercepted more than 100,000 tramadol capsules allegedly destined for insurgents in Borno State.
Spokesman Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said the drugs were hidden in the driver’s compartment of a fuel tanker stopped at the Abuja–Kaduna tollgate on Friday, August 29.
The suspect, identified as Hassan Buba, was immediately taken into custody.
In a separate operation on Saturday, NDLEA officers arrested a man in possession of 34.15kg of cannabis (skunk) at the Gwargwaje checkpoint in Zaria. On the same day, operatives also detained a major supplier of opioids in Borno shortly after he collected supplies from Onitsha, Anambra State.
A raid on his apartment in Maiduguri uncovered 30,640 tramadol pills, 7,940 rohypnol tablets, and ₦7.9 million in cash, all in newly minted ₦200 notes.
Another suspect, Hamisu, was picked up in Yola, Adamawa, after operatives intercepted a vehicle carrying 58kg of cannabis concealed in sacks of pepper. The car, driven by Sani Suleiman from Gombe, was traced to Hamisu in a follow-up operation.
The NDLEA said the arrests form part of intensified nationwide operations targeting drug cartels that fuel insecurity.
