Nigeria has pledged to deepen its partnership with Trinidad and Tobago as the Caribbean nation marks its Independence Anniversary.
Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, in a statement released on Sunday by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, congratulated his counterpart Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, and praised the country’s spirit of unity and progress.
Tuggar said the anniversary reflects the resilience and determination of the people of Trinidad and Tobago in their pursuit of sovereignty, democracy, and development.
“Nigeria joins in celebrating this historic occasion, which reflects our shared values of freedom, resilience, and the quest for sustainable development,” he said.
The minister highlighted the cordial ties between the two countries, rooted in Commonwealth membership and reinforced through cooperation in culture, education, trade, and diplomacy.
He also noted that Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago work together within the United Nations, the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), and other international bodies to promote peace, security, and equitable growth.
“Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to deepening the bonds of friendship and exploring new avenues for collaboration for the mutual benefit of both countries,” Tuggar added.
