The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has voiced strong opposition to the newly announced pump price of fuel, characterizing it as an insensitive measure that will exacerbate the nation’s poverty and hardship.

In a statement issued by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, the organization expressed dismay at waking up to the news of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) decision to raise the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N587 per liter to N617 per liter.

The NLC condemned this move, particularly considering the current suffering and difficulties faced by Nigerians due to the initial fuel price hike on May 29, presented as part of President Tinubu’s inaugural gift to the nation.

With an 18 percent increase in fuel prices at a time of great hardship, the NLC branded the action as sadistic and wholly unacceptable.

Moreover, they perceive it as a sign of governmental triumphalism, displaying a lack of empathy for the masses.

The NLC’s president raised concerns about the government’s attitude towards the people, indicating that it might be underestimating the populace’s patience.

The organization warned that such measures could push the Nigerian people to their limits, potentially leading to unrest that could overwhelm the government’s perceived safeguards.

In conclusion, the NLC firmly condemned the unilateral fuel price hike, demanding that the government consider the dire circumstances of its citizens and refrain from pushing them further into turmoil.
